Forged in Wood: Building Anderson's Blacksmith Shop

James Anderson was a blacksmith and entrepreneur who played an essential role in the American Revolution. He opened his shop in the 1760s. Recreation of this shops proved a challenge, as most workshops from the 1700s have long since disappeared. Colonial Williamsburg architectural historians assembled a plan, using materials and finish appropriate to a work building. Anderson's shops provided the first opportunity to reconstruct a large Williamsburg building using the original methods. Fascinating story of this project
